Product Description

This versatile herb is commonly grown as a perennial or annual in kitchen herb gardens around the world. In cooking, marjoram lends a warm, peppery flavor to cheese, eggs, potatoes, dips, sauces, soups and stews. Marjoram is a member of the mint family and is often mistaken for oregano, although they are not the same plant. The leaves have a delicate, sweet, pleasant flavor with a slightly bitter undertone and are most commonly used as a flavoring for meat dishes.

The herb is commonly used in Middle Eastern cooking, often in combination with its botanical cousins — basil, oregano, savory and various mints. It is a key ingredient in za'atar, a Middle Eastern seasoning blend that includes salt, dried sumac and ground sesame seeds.

Marjoram is also a component of Italian seasoning mix and the French blend known as herbes de Provence.

Uses

Culinary Use in herbal tea and seasoning blends.
Household Infuse in hot water, alcohol or witch hazel for use in natural cleaners.
Aromatic Infuse in oil or alcohol to make massage oils and perfumes.
