A blend from the Middle East is commonly added to marinades or sprinkled on meats before grilling! Made with thyme, sesame seeds and other spice, this blend is great on grilled vegetables.
This spice blend is predominately ground sumac, roasted sesame seeds, and green herbs, za'atar is used to flavor meats and vegetables, or mixed with olive oil and used as a marinade for olives or as a spread for pita or flatbread.
The thyme adds warmth and depth, while the sesame seeds give the blend an earthiness. This blend can be found in recipes from Lebanon and Syria and from Turkey to Iran.
Good on Pork, artichokes, beef, vegetables, eggs, any meat dishes, on salads, in salsas, the list goes on and on.
