The Sun and Your Skin

While the sun is an excellent source of Vitamin D, ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun can penetrate deep into your skin, affecting it in many ways. Sunburn results from UV ray overexposure. Your body’s immune system increases blood flow into the damaged area so white blood cells can remove the dead skin cells. This blood flow is what causes your sunburned skin to become warm and red. Even a tan is not healthy. It’s your body’s attempt to prevent further sun damage to skin cells. When exposed to the sun’s UV rays, your skin’s melanocytes produce melanin, the dark pigment that creates a tan. A tan does not help protect your skin from getting a sunburn in the future. Wrinkles occur over time from UVA rays penetrating the skin and breaking-down collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm and smooth. Other signs of sun-aged skin are freckles and age spots. UV rays can also affect your eyes!

SunSpot ES may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.
